ACLU Says Americans Have Right to be Safe AND Free
In the wake of the botched Christmas day airline attack by a Nigerian man, the Obama administration is meeting with intelligence officials to understand how airport security failed. Already new security measures have been put into place since yesterday that single out nationals from fourteen specific countries including Nigeria, Yemen, and Afghanistan and other majority Muslim countries. The Council on American Islamic Relations countered that it considers the new measures as religious profiling. Additional measures under consideration include improvements to the terror watch list, as well as new methods of body scans and luggage searches. But the nation’s leading civil liberties organization, ACLU has called for “the implementation of effective security policies that pose the most minimal threat possible to Americans’ privacy.”
