Eric Drooker The Murder of Carlo Tresca

Back in the day on January 11th, 1943, Italian-born American anarchist Carlo Tresca was murdered in New York. The newspaper editor and labor organizer had spent much of his adult life editing newspapers with his outspoken political perspectives while being active in the labor movement. Having left Italy to avoid persecution for his activism, Tresca wasted little time in making waves in the United States. He joined the Industrial Workers of the World taking part in important strikes in Lawrence and Paterson. When Benito Mussolini brought fascism upon Tresca’s motherland, the Italian anarchist shifted his activism to counter immigrant pro-fascist support groups for the regime. Tresca’s actions caught the attention of both the U.S. and Italian governments and he would live much of the rest of his life under surveillance. Journalistically, Tresca also criticized the Soviet Union during the 1930s before beginning another public campaign against the Mafia.

Though far from a perfect man, Tresca had many enemies, and his murder remains a mystery though many have said his assassin to be contracted killer Carmine Galante.

For Uprising, this is your truth professa’ saying it’s no mystery why they conceal our people’s history
