Canvassing Peace – New Art Exhibit Open at Art Walk
With the cruelty and dishonesty that marked the 8 years of George W Bush’s Presidency, many American and international artists had rich material to work from. Art work depicting Bush and members of his cabinet flourished and were relished by many of us as expressions of dissent during a time of war and deception. While war has continued in different forms under President Obama there just seems to be less material to parody. Where are artists finding inspiration today? A new art exhibit hosted by the American Friends Service Committee opening tonight focuses on “the important legacy of artistic self-expression in in times of uncertainty, and showcases the ways artists play a role in building a sense of community, peace, and social justice.” The exhibit features acclaimed artists Robbie Conal and KPFK’s Lalo Alcaraz as well as several new and emerging artists.
GUEST: artist Robbie Conal. Books include Art Attack and Not Your Typical Political Animal
Canvassing Peace opens on Thursday 1/14 at 6 pm as part of the LA Art Walk, at the Friends Gallery, 634 S Spring St, 3rd Floor, Los Angeles CA.
The exhibit runs through August 12, 2010, weekday from 10 am to 4 pm.
