mumia abu jamalMumia Abu Jamal is an award winning journalist and political prisoner. Today’s commentary is about Haiti.

Mumia Abu Jamal was convicted to death row nearly 30 years ago in the shooting death of a Philadelphia police officer. He has always claimed his innocence and in 2008 a US Court of Appeals overturned his death sentence, effectively commuting it to life in prison. That decision was appealed all the way to the Supreme Court which earlier this week tossed out the lower court’s decision and ordered the Court of Appeals to either reinstate the death sentence or order a new federal trial. Last year the nation’s highest court turned down Mumia’s separate petition for a new trial.
