What are Obama and Congress Doing About Unemployment?
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development released unemployment data yesterday revealing that the US has more joblessness than the average industrialized nation. With the official figure hovering at around 9.5%, with census jobs ending for hundreds of thousands, and with Congress stalling on extending unemployment benefits, millions of Americans are in a precarious position. Despite rosy depictions of a recovering economy, there are still far more skilled people than jobs available, and in fact new jobs are not being created. As the Senate gets ready to pass a finance reform bill, the Obama administration is attempting to renew a tax credit for companies that hire unemployed workers.
