Pacifica Archives Summer School Campus Campaign
For the more than 60 years that Pacifica Radio has been on the air, producing countless hours of historic, ground-breaking, and visionary programming, the Pacifica Radio Archives has carefully stored this material on reels, cassette tapes, and today CDs and hard drives. This repository of historic audio documenting in particular, progressive movements for change, is one of the nation’s most extensive. Indeed it is a national treasure. Housing the voices of Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, Howard Zinn, Studs Terkel, Rosa Parks, and countless others, the Archives keeps alive an American legacy that much of today’s conservative movements would like to ignore. A few years ago, the Pacifica Radio Archives began disseminating this precious audio to college and high school campuses all across the country, allowing listeners like you to own the material, as well as send copies of it to the campus of your choice. Today, we continue this campus campaign with a summer school edition.
If you call and donate any time during this 12 hour broadcast and pledge $150 to the Pacifica Radio Archives, we will thank you with a set of 14 mp3 CDs: 7 for you, and 7 for the campus of your choice. All you have to do is call 1800-735-0230. The 7 CDs you get are the 2 3-CD campus campaign audio sets featuring about 60 hours of MP3 audio, plus a brand new 10 hour CD called the Pacifica Radio Archives Music Project featuring Pete Seeger, John Coltrane, Miriam Makeba, Phil Ochs, Lady Smith Black Mambazo, Buffy Saint-Marie, Fela Kuti, and Bob Dylan. Again, if you call and make a $150 pledge to the Pacifica Radio Archives at 1800-735-0230, we’ll send you 7 MP3 CDs of about 70 hours of material, and we’ll send a copy to a campus of your choice. If you can’t think of a campus, we’ll choose one for you.
Among the hours of incredible material that the Archives have gathered and preserved are the voices of the most important women in American history and today on Uprising, I’ll be sharing some of those women’s voices with you including Rosa Parks, Lorraine Hansbury, Doloros Huerta, Bella Abzug, Rachel Carson, Angela Davis, and Lena Horne. We begin with Rosa Parks.
To make a pledge call 1-800-735-0230 before 6 pm on Tuesday July 20th, or pledge online at www.supportPRA.org.
