Obama’s Challenge: Iran, Nuclear Weapons and the Fate of the Middle East
Speaking to NBC on Sunday, Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said about possible war with Iran over its nuclear capabilities, “Military actions have been on the table and remain on the table.” When asked point blank if the military has a plan in place to attack Iran, Mullen replied “we do.” Tensions with Iran are once more high in the wake of a series of punitive sanctions that the UN Security Council imposed on Iran at the behest of the US and the European Union. Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmedinejad said this week that the US was being influenced in its Iran policy too much by Israel and that he was ready for face-to-face talks with President Obama. Today we spend the hour learning about Iran with Reese Erlich. Reese Erlich writes for the San Francisco Chronicle, St. Petersburg Times, and Christian Science Monitor. He is an acclaimed investigative reporter, broadcast journalist, and bestselling author. Erlich has traveled to Iran many times and written several books including The Iran Agenda: The Real Story of U.S. Policy and the Middle East Crisis. In an April 1st 2010 debate at UC Riverside, Erlich spoke alongside Larry Greenfield, Scott Horton, and Christopher Records in an event entitled “Obama’s Challenge: Iran, Nuclear Weapons and the Fate of the Middle East.”

One Response to “Obama’s Challenge: Iran, Nuclear Weapons and the Fate of the Middle East”
On a related note, the 8/7/10 rt.com newscast reported the Russian Foreign Ministry accuses the US of nuclear transgressions. The FM found the US has failed to comply with arms treaties; lost nuclear material; helped Israel create air defense system; and sold military equipment to countries the US itself has blacklisted – including Iran and Syria.
