zinnYou Can’t be Neutral on a Moving Train – that was a maxim often said by people’s historian Howard Zinn, implying that there’s no such thing as objectivity in a world full of injustice. The Boston-based professor of History wrote the definitive history of the United States from the perspective of ordinary people, the grassroots, the labor organizers, suffragettes, poor enslaved and free African Americans, immigrants, and others. The People’s History of the United States set the standard for progressive views of history and sold well over a million copies. On January 27, 2010, Howard Zinn died of a heart attack in Santa Monica, California. He was 87 years old. In 2004 he wrote his memoir You Can’t be Neutral on a Moving Train, which was then made into a documentary. After his death, the documentary’s distributor, First Run Features has worked on a special commemorative edition of the film which we are offering today as our thank you gift to you today, along with copies of one of Zinn’s last recorded public speeches called Holy Wars, and his last book, published post-humously by City Lights books called simply The Bomb.
