As predicted, Republicans emerged as the big winners in last night’s mid-term elections. The GOP now controls the House, holding at least 239 seats to the Democrats 184. Exit polls yesterday revealed that young people and African Americans turned out in lower numbers than during the 2008 presidential election. Only 9% of 18-29 year-olds voted, compared to 18% two years ago. Nearly 60% of youth who voted favored Democratic candidates.
