CSU Students Stage Sit-in To Save Higher Education
On April 13th thousands of students throughout the Cal State University system rallied on their campuses to demand affordable, quality public education. At Cal State University Fullerton a coalition drafted a Declaration in Defense of Public Education and requested that the President of their University, Milton Gordon, become a signatory. He refused, spurring negotiations over the Declaration’s language. This past Monday those negotiations stalled, and students and faculty supporters began staging a sit-in, which became a sleep-in, that has entered its fourth day. They assert that it is imperative the President become a partner. An average of 25 students have been sleeping on the ground floor of Langsford Hall, several floors underneath the President’s office. Contra Costa Times reports that last night 80 students and faculty members spent the night at Langsford, and the ranks have been periodically boosted by students from other Cal State campuses.
Uprising producer Martina Steiner went Langsford Hall at Cal State Fullerton yesterday and spoke with students and faculty.
