Chomsky and Joya on Afghanistan and Pakistan
In April of this year, a U.S. tour by famed Afghan dissident Malalai Joya, was put on hold after her visa was denied. Joya, a former member of the Afghan parliament, is author of the book, A Woman Among Warlords, and has spoken numerous times before in the U.S. A broad national campaign aimed at the State Department paid off within two weeks, allowing her to catch a flight into Boston and arrive just hours before she was scheduled to speak alongside Professor Noam Chomsky at Harvard University. The event, organized by Haymarket Books, was attended by over 1200 people with many having to be turned away.
