Los Angelinos Organize Their Own Occupation, Plan to Remain in Front of City Hall

On Saturday over a thousand people gathered in Pershing Square, downtown Los Angeles and marched to City Hall in an action dubbed Occupy Los Angeles, in the spirit of the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York. Like in New York, a group of activists, called a “General Assembly” has been formed to make decisions collectively. The demonstrations continued yesterday with many protesters pitching tents and spending the night. The protesters are rallying with the slogan, “we are the 99 percent,” alluding to the stark wealth gap between the nation’s richest 1% and their disproportionate political power, and the rest of Americans. Uprising correspondents Ankur Patel and Bipasha Shom were at the Occupy LA protests on Saturday and filed this special report.

It is unclear how long people intend to remain in front of City Hall. Bethania Palma is a member of the General Assembly for Occupy LA. According to her, there will be a march to a bank at 3 pm today by UTLA teachers, starting at 322 S. Lucas Avenue in LA, followed by a march by ANSWER Coalition at 5 pm to support protesters arrested in New York. Follow Occupy LA on Twitter @occupyLA.

Time has come for the mass protest in the USA. Since the illegal and unwanted IRAQ war declared by the Bush-Cheney and after giving away trillion dollar worth tax benefits to the 2% rich Americans, America has been almost bankrupted, has no new money to invest and no money to pay her debts. Since last few years, rich are becoming more richer and poor are becoming more poorer. Jobs are getting vanished, public facilities are getting cut and more and more people lose their daily foods and shelters. Under these situation, rather than asking the rich to stop looting more, the selfish and slave politicians are telling poor Americans to sacrifice more so the 2% rich can become more richer and they can throw some bones. It is too much for the middle class public to take it. Looks like no avenues are left for them. Our democracy, freedom of expression and human rights are almost hijacked by these 2% goons. It is very shocking to note that only few thousands Americans are protesting for the greed of American rich people rather than millions. Time has come to wake-up and carry out mass protest every where in America, similar to less educated and less free Arab masses are carrying out in their streets.
