NYPD Arrests 700 Occupy Wall Streets Protesters, Actions Continue to Grow
The New York Police Department is being accused of corralling 700 Occupy Wall Street protestors onto the Brooklyn Bridge, and then carrying out a mass arrest. On Saturday, according to protestors, the NYPD blocked participants from continuing a planned march over the bridge and made arrests. Police allege the hundreds of arrested marchers attempted to occupy the famous bridge, but some of those detained, including a New York Times reporter, refute this version of events. Defying expectations Occupy Wall Street not only continues, but is growing. Beginning last week labor unions joined the so-called 99 percenters who began their occupation of US financial headquarters on September 17th. The ranks have swollen by thousands as groups- many of them labor unions or union members – have joined the protest at Zucotti Park or held solidarity actions. Hundreds of members of the Air Line Pilots Association, including 700 Continental and United pilots, marched in uniform last Tuesday. The New York Transit Workers Union has been providing food and support since last week, and members will march on Wednesday. SEIU and United Federation of Teacher locals, professors with the Professional Staff Conference, the Working Families Party and MoveOn.org are all joining what is becoming a national call for economic justice. The movement has spread from coast to coast including solidarity actions in Seattle, Boston, Portland, San Francisco, and LA. Occupy groups are forming in Clarksville, Tennesse, Columbia, South Carolina, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Jacksonville, Florida. The initial skepticism over the ability of a seemingly inexperienced, largely privileged class of young people to spark a popular movement inspired by Spain’s Indignados has given way to celebration. In a widely circulated “Open Letter,” Arun Gupta called for less criticism and more participation, observing, “[a] generation derided as narcissistic, apathetic and hopeless [is] staking a claim to a better future for all of us.”

Time has come for the mass protest in the USA. Since the illegal and unwanted IRAQ war declared by the Bush-Cheney and after giving away trillion dollar worth tax benefits to the 2% rich Americans, America has been almost bankrupted, has no new money to invest and no money to pay her debts. Since last few years, rich are becoming more richer and poor are becoming more poorer. Jobs are getting vanished, public facilities are getting cut and more and more people lose their daily foods and shelters. Under these situation, rather than asking the rich to stop looting more, the selfish and slave politicians are telling poor Americans to sacrifice more so the 2% rich can become more richer and they can throw some bones. It is too much for the middle class public to take it. Looks like no avenues are left for them. Our democracy, freedom of expression and human rights are almost hijacked by these 2% goons. It is very shocking to note that only few thousands Americans are protesting for the greed of American rich people rather than millions. Time has come to wake-up and carry out mass protest every where in America, similar to less educated and less free Arab masses are carrying out in their streets.
The movement is gaining momentum in its THIRD week now and Occupations are popping up all over the country! Stand up together and use your voice to give to those without through peace and solidarity. Tax the rich and feed the poor- you are the 99%!
