Ziggy Marley, son of the world’s most famous reggae star, Bob Marley, has been nominated for a Grammy award for his new album, Wild and Free. If he wins, it will be Marley’s third Grammy. Wild and Free features 12 new tracks, and has been described as his most personal and political album to date. The title track, Wild and Free was written in support of California’s proposition 19, which in 2010, attempted to legalize marijuana for the purposes of taxing it. Earlier this year, Ziggy Marley helped launch a new comic book line called Marijuana Man which “tells the tale of a noble extraterrestrial champion, who has arrived on Earth to deliver an important message, and at the same time save his own planet.” The reggae musician is a strong defender of environmental and social rights and oversees an organization called URGE, (unlimited resources giving enlightenment). Part of the proceeds of all his ticket sales benefit URGE projects. This weekend, Ziggy Marley will perform in Los Angeles, on Saturday December 17th at Club Nokia, 800 W Olympic Blvd. Doors open at 8 pm. The event also features Quinto Sol.
