Hundreds of people marched on the streets of Charlotte, North Carolina over the weekend, in advance of the Democratic National Convention that begins today. Protesters called the area they marched on, “Wall Street South,” because of the high concentration of banks and large corporations, some of which have helped to finance the DNC. Groups of activists locked arms and briefly organized sit-ins outside the headquarters of Bank of America and Duke Energy. The group, Occupy Charlotte, has launched an occupation of Marshall Park for the week.

Meanwhile, organized labor, which strongly supports the Democratic Party, is unhappy with the choice of North Carolina, a “right-to-work” state that undermines the power of union organizing. Later in the week, President Obama will give his acceptance speech in the 75,000 seat, perhaps aptly named, Bank of America Stadium.

GUEST: Ben Carroll, marched this weekend with the Coalition to March on Wall St. South
