Frank Tamborello on House Targeting of the Foodstamp Program
Food stamp recipients, trying to live on just over $30 of food a week, have a new reason to worry – House Republicans want to cut the food stamp program either dramatically or altogether.
A vote on Thursday July 11, 2013 split off, for the first time in decades, the federal government’s food stamp program from the Farm Bill to which it is traditionally attached. An earlier version of the bill, with $20 billion in cuts failed to pass the House a month but a similar bill with smaller cuts passed the Senate.
