More than ten thousand people marched in New York city over the weekend expressing their outrage over the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. The outrage focused on the danger young people of color face in the wake of the decision, as well as on the racism of the US criminal justice system, among other things.

In what was a little known fact about the case, George Zimmerman’s younger cousin had accused him of molesting her for almost twenty years starting from when she was only six years old. Known only as ‘witness number 9’ the woman’s statement was not allowed to be part of the trial. Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s attorney had filed a motion to suppress the accusation saying that it was irrelevant to the case. In addition to the molestation charges she also claimed that Zimmerman’s family was overtly racist. Zimmerman had also been accused by an ex-girlfriend of domestic violence and had a past arrest for assaulting a police officer.
