In response to a lawsuit by Yahoo over the handing over of personal user data to the NSA’s surveillance program, a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court or FISA Court has just ruled that the government must declassify its justification for spying on Americans via the program known as PRISM.
After many months of being stymied by Republicans, Richard Cordray, the man President Obama picked to head the newly created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was finally confirmed. The agency which opened its doors 2 years ago, was designed by now-Senator Elizabeth Warren to provide greater protection for consumers against banks and other lending institutions.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is expected to testify before Congress today and in his remarks which have been released ahead of time, Bernanke plans to end the government’s $85 billion a month bond buying stimulus program.
And in local news, the LA Times and others are reporting this morning that Hollywood was hit last night by a string of robberies and vandalism. Twelve people who were arrested were described by the Times, as part of “large marauding bands of young people.” Two young black men were mistakenly arrested before being released because “they matched the general description of the robbers.”
