Despite resigning in shame in 2011, former New York Congressman Anthon Weiner returned to political life this year with a bid for Mayor of New York City just as yet another sex scandal came to light.

Several women have come forward claiming Mr Weiner sent them sexually explicit text messages. Now, women’s groups are unapologetically calling his behavior sexist and calling on him to back out of the race.

Groups like Emily’s List and the National Organization of Women are supporting a female candidate running against Weiner – City Council member Christine Quinn who is, like Weiner, a Democrat.

In recent days Quinn’s public support is polling in the double digits leading Weiner, after previously lagging behind him.

She said this weekend on Meet the Press, “When you see scandal after scandal about [Weiner’s sexting habits], what it does is create more distrust and maybe even more disgust in government.”

Meanwhile it is being reported that Anthony Weiner’s Chief Campaign manager has quit.
