The attack is part of an increasing trend of violence targeting Libya’s security forces and judiciary. Click here for a Global Post article on the story.
In New York City, a mayoral candidate championed by unions and progressives, Bill De Blasio, appears to have won the Democratic Party’s primary election, which means he faces Republican candidate Joe Lhota in a general election this fall. Click here for a Guardian article about the story.
And, finally, the city of Richmond here in California has just approved a resolution to enable the seizing of properties using “eminent domain” in order to save homes with underwater mortgages and other financial problems. The Richmond city council voted 4-3 to approve a collaboration with the group, Mortgage Resolution Partners, in a move that private mortgage and real estate companies are loudly denouncing. Richmond is one of the poorest cities in California and happens to have one of the most progressive mayors – Gayle McLaughlin – who championed the resolution.
