News media are enthusiastically reporting on the possibility that debris from Malaysia Airlines flight 370 may have been spotted in the Southern Indian ocean, as the search continues, now near the end of its second week.

The puzzle of where the plane and its 239 people on board may have vanished has been the source of intense water-cooler discussion and social media speculation for days. It has also been the focus of hours and pages of media coverage.

Nicholas Quah, who is a journalist from Malaysia and now lives in the US, has just written a scathing piece critiquing media coverage of the missing plane as “shameful.”
