Richard Montoya’s Noir Thriller, Water and Power Captures LA’s East Side Like No Other Film
One of the founders of LA’s acclaimed Chicano satire and performance group Culture Clash, has a new movie about what else but LA? Richard Montoya’s very first feature film, based on his stage play of the same name, Water and Power, is a neo-noir film about 2 brothers in Los Angeles, the Garcia twins, bizarrely nicknamed Water and Power.
Set deep in the rich cultural traditions of LA’s East Side, the plot of Water and Power is spread out over one long night as Power who is an LAPD cop struggles with a life-changing incident alongside his brother Water, who happens to be a local politician with a dream to plant a million trees in LA.
The film is presented by Edward James Olmos and debuted at the LA Latino Film Festival. It opens at in AMC theaters this Friday.
