GUEST: Lillian Faderman is an internationally known scholar of lesbian history and literature, as well as ethnic history and literature. She is the author of: the New York Times ‘Notable Books, Surpassing the Love of Men and Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers’, ‘Gay L.A.: A History of Sexual Outlaws, Power Politics’ and ‘Lipstick Lesbians.’

Just a few years ago, when California was reeling from Proposition 8 (which many renamed “Proposition Hate”), it is hard to imagine that we would be living in a nation where marriage was a legal right for gay and lesbian Americans. The 2015 Supreme Court decision legalizing marriage is the product of decades of strife, much of which is recounted in Lillian Faderman’s new book, The Gay Revolution: The Story of the Struggle.
