Myanmar just wrapped up historic elections that were declared free and fair. The party of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, National League for Democracy, has won a majority of seats in the lower house and has a commanding lead in the upper house. The Myanmar military, which had long ruled the country, have reserved 25% of all seats for themselves in Parliament. They are also in command of the home, defense, and border affairs ministries. Aung San Suu Kyi has been declared ineligible for the post of President.

This week US President Barack Obama called incumbent President Thein Sein to congratulate him on overseeing fair elections. It could be months before a new President is picked however.
