How the Gun Industry Avoided the Fate of Big Tobacco
GUEST: Josh Israel, senior investigative reporter for ThinkProgress.org at the Center for American Progress Action Fund. He recently wrote an article for ThinkProgress called ‘The Gun Industry Has Systematically Demolished Regulators And Avoided The Fate Of Cigarettes’.
The recent horrific massacre in San Bernardino, California, has raised many questions about what motived the killers, a young, newly married couple with a 6-month old child. The FBI is now investigating the shooting that left 14 dead, as a terrorism case.
The incident is the deadliest since the Connecticut shooting at Sandy Hook elementary school nearly 3 years ago. It has once more raised the question of why the gun lobby has such a stranglehold on American politics that we are unable to regulate guns. In fact, just a day after the San Bernardino shooting, Senate Republicans voted down a measure that would have prevented people on the US terror watch list from purchasing firearms.
