By now the group of armed white militants led by Ammon Bundy that took over a wildlife refuge in Oregon has become yet one more source of global ridicule of the US. Social media hashtags have skewered the group. And even famed author Ursula K Le Guin has published a widely shared letter to a newspaper calling them “a flock of Right-Winged Loonybirds infesting the refuge.” At a community meeting earlier this week, local residents, increasingly frustrated, directed their anger at government officials and Bundy and his ilk.
