KPFK Fund Drive – Day 11
Valentine’s Day is this Sunday, February 14th, a day that retailers look forward to for a post-Christmas bump in sales. Often seen simply as a Hallmark holiday, Valentine’s Day can be a source of pleasure for some, pain for others. Today we want to end the week of our pledge drive with a little Valentine’s Day exploration of the history and art of love with my special guest for the hour, Gregorio Luke. Luke has been a guest several times on Uprising and for some of you he needs no introduction. But for the rest of you, Gregorio Luke is the former director of the Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach. He is an award-winning, acclaimed lecturer on art, having presented over 1,000 lectures in museums and universities in Mexico and the US. In 2009, Gregorio Luke presented three lectures at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood to sold-out crowds. We’re quite fortunate here at KPFK that he is a strong supporter of this station, and is the featured speaker at an exciting KPFK event this Saturday called Love Fest.
Love Fest is KPFK’s celebration of love on Saturday February 13th from 7 pm to 2 am at the Chiparaki Cultural Center, 1635 Spring Street in Downtown LA. The event will feature a multimedia presentation by Gregorio Luke, and music from three bands, Locura Obscura, Chamba, and ZocaloZüe.
