Media Ignores Terror Attack on Florida Mosque
A pipe bomb was detonated outside Jacksonville’s Islamic Center of Northeast Florida during evening prayers last Monday. No worshippers were harmed. A surveillance video shows a middle aged man carrying a can of gasoline and the pipe bomb. Local and state police and the FBI are investigating allegations that ACT! for America, an anti-Islam hate group that has been harassing members of Florida’s prominent Muslim community, is responsible. Brigitte Gabriel, the founder of ACT! for America has made a number of disturbing statements, even claiming that a “practicing Muslim, who believes in the teachings of the Koran, cannot be a loyal citizen to the United States of America.” A man who barged into the mosque on April 4th crying, “Stop this blasphemy” and threatening to return may also be responsible. The perpetrator could be charged with committing a hate crime, church arson, and domestic terrorism, and may face anywhere from 10 years to life in prison. The Council on American Islamic Relations or CAIR is offering a 5000 dollar reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the bomber. This attack comes during a tidal wave of anti-Muslim sentiment in Florida that has grown following the Times Square car bomb attempt in New York. Parvez Ahmed, a University of North Florida professor who was recently appointed to the Jacksonville city council despite a torrid smear campaign, has faced a slew of inappropriate badgering from fellow council members. One council member declared that Ahmed “would be offended by a prayer to Jesus, and therefore was not suitable to serve on the commission.” Florida Republican Congressional candidate Dan Fanelli is attempting to use racial profiling as a campaign strategy.

UPDATE: Seven months after the bombing of the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida in Jacksonville, the FBI finally made headway in the case. In November 2010, federal investigators released to the public, a sketch of a man they believe is the perpetrator. They also released surveillance video footage of a white man wearing a black baseball cap and T-shirt. Local News channel WJXT quoted FBI officials as saying the suspect is likely to be local to the Jacksonville area and could have radical, Christian beliefs. At this time there is no evidence that the person suspected of being the perpetrator acted in concert with or on behalf of any group or organization. Rewards totaling $35,000 are being offered for his arrest and conviction. Meanwhile on January 24, 2011, a white man named Roger Stockham from Imperial Beach, California was arrested for a similar crime: attempting to blow up an Islamic Center in Dearborn, Michigan.

Where is your evidence that Brigitte Gabriel or her organization is responsible for the pipe bomb? Many people are very concerned about the threat from radical Islam, but that doesn’t mean that they advocate bombing mosques.
Also, Brigitte Gabriel’s statement that a religious Muslim cannot be loyal to America sounds just like what Seyyid Qutb wrote in his immensely popular book, “Milestones”; and Qutb’s views on the ideology of Islam are shared by the entire Muslim Brotherhood which is CAIR’s parent organization. As confirmation, we know that the entire Muslim world supports the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam, and NOT the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which America and the rest of Western Civilization supports. So, what, exactly, is wrong with Brigitte Gabriel’s statement? She is only repeating what the most respected Islamic sources say about Islam and Muslims.
The FBI is not investigating allegations that ACT! was involved – nor was it even raised in the press release. Your post is libelous and actionable. Are you going to correct it?
Dear All,
It turns out that last week there were not one but two attempts at bombing in USA. The one in Times Square failed but the bomb in the mosque in Jacksonville, Florida did go off causing serious damage.
The bomb that exploded evoked hardly any reaction from the politicians and media both in the US and Pakistan. The one that didn’t has been hitting headlines all over the world and US politicians have threatened Pakistan with dire consequences on the assumption that the presumed culprit, a US citizen, was allegedly trained by some terrorist outfit in Pakistan.
Did the man really have to travel all way to Pakistan to learn how not to make a bomb? More importantly, why is one explosion in the same country so much more significant and newsworthy than the other?
well there’s the media for you. If it was a pipe bomb outside a church, it would be in block capitals on the front page of all newspapers blaming it on ‘islamists’ and emphasizing it. Sad.
To Mr. Musa (comment above):
“Where is your evidence that Brigitte Gabriel or her organization is responsible for the pipe bomb?”
The story does not claim that Gabriel is responsible: The article states simply that the FBI is investigating the possibility that ACT! is the culprit. Your the one making false charges and not the author of the article.
As for your other charges, i.e. a “Muslim cannot be loyal to America” … this is a complete falsity. I know many Muslims who love America. Your claims make no sense based on my personal experience alone.
@Bruce. Not timely, but your falsehood must be retracted. This article writer, a representative from CAIR, claims without basis that the FBI is investigating “allegations” of involvement.
Now, who made those allegations, CAIR? Can you tell us that? You know they’re being investigated, so you must know who made the allegations.

As it stands, the perpetrator was tracked down and killed by the FBI. He was angry about the war and the killing of Americans by Muslims, and hadn’t professed any religious basis for attempting to harm Muslims. He was also addicted to methadone.
So, the crime was reported, acknowledged, and proceeded apace without regard to the creed, color or gender of the victim. The perpetrator received justice. I wonder at the hyperbolic frothing of this author regarding mentions of race. What race is Islam again?
@Bruce, sorry, one more thing. It’s not your fault your patriotic friends aren’t devout Muslims. While they live in non-Muslim-controlled lands, they are obliged to follow the law of the land. But when the Muslims are able (strong enough) they are to install the shari’a, because manmade law cannot supplant the shari’a.
But the fact that they love America is not the same thing as Islam being antithetical to a constitutional secular republic. Loyalty comes when a choice needs to be made. Look how hard CAIR’s various chapters fight to prevent people from voting on anti-sharia statutes across the country.
Now why would “loyal” Americans do that?
