carry it onThis evening the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga Canyon presents Carry it On! A Celebration of Words and Music, as part of their Starry Starry Nights program. The performance features a celebrity cast including James Cromwell, Amy Madigan, Michael O’Neill, Jordan Belfi and Christina Pickles alongside members of the Geer family. Actors will perform actual speeches, songs and poetry of Americans such as Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., Mark Twain, Walt Whitman, Woody Guthrie, Rosa Parks, Mother Jones, and many others. This one-time only performance of its kind is also a joint benefit for Theatricum’s repertory company and arts education programs, and KPFK. Theatricum artistic director Ellen Geer compiled the works and her sister, Mellora Marshall is one of the performers.

There will also be an “activist package” raffled off tonight which includes a compilation of CDs from the Pacifica Radio Archives, a mounted poster from the Center for the Study of Political Graphics, a season subscription for 2 to the Theatricum Botanicum, a $30 gift certificate to Diesel Bookstore in Malibu, and a surprise gift and free parking from the Getty Center. Raffle tickets are $2 each and will be sold at the performance.
