El Centro Re-Opens
GUESTS: Gustavo Arellano, Board Member of El Centro Cultural de Mexico, Kimberly Mercado, and Pedro Lopez, volunteers at El Centro and members of the music group, Son del Centro
El Centro Cultural de Mexico in Santa Ana received a 30-day eviction notice in August of 2005. Its old location was closed the following month. It was a story we had covered on Uprising last year. Since that time, El Centro board members and volunteers have been hard at work looking for a new space, while continuing to promote cultural events in Santa Ana. Now El Centro has finally found a new home where it can continue hosting dozens of weekly events, political meetings, classes in Son Jarocho, punk and hip hop shows. Uprising assistant producer Gabriel San Roman recently visited El Centro’s new location in downtown Santa Ana and spoke with board member Gustavo Arellano, and two volunteers, Kimberly Mercado, and Pedro Lopez of the music group, Son del Centro.
The grand opening will take place Saturday February 4th at 6 pm. El Centro Cultural de Mexico is located at 310 W 5th Street in Santa Ana. Download a flyer of their grand opening: [English][Espanol].
