GUEST: Howard Zinn, author of many books including “A People’s History of the United States”

When Howard Zinn first published, “A People’s History of the United States,” twenty-five years ago, it was groundbreaking in serving as an antidote to traditional American history narratives. Teachers and parents who have sought to bring Zinn’s social perspectives to young people have been at a loss for books until now. Rebecca Stefoff has adapted Zinn’s history book to create a two volume set for young adult readers ages 10-14 called “A Young People’s History of the United States.” Volume one covers the days of Columbus to the Spanish-American War of 1898. Volume two covers the class struggles of the twentieth century and ends with the present so-called war on terror. Today, the 4th of July, is a fitting day to hear from people’s historian Howard Zinn. We aired excerpts from our interview with Zinn during this past funddrive. Today, we bring you the entire interview with Zinn about the Young People’s History of the US. I began by asking him who exactly the books are intended for.
