GABNet Three Return Home To The US
| the entire program
GUEST:Dr. Annalisa Enrile, National Chairperson of GABRIELA Network, and Assistant Professor at USC
In a follow up to a story covered on Uprising last week, GABRIELA Network Chairperson and USC Professor Analissa Enrile finally returned home from the Philippines. Listeners may recall that Dr. Enrile was just one of three GABNet women placed on a hold list by the Philippine Department of Justice. Dr. Enrile was first informed of being on the hold list when she was barred from boarding her original flight to Los Angeles from Manila on August 5th. Two fellow GABnet leaders, Judith Mirkinson and Ninotchka Rosca, were also not allowed to return home as they too were on the hold list. A week ago, vigils across the United States took place outside of Philippine Consular Offices demanding for the release and return of the GABNet 3. Around that same time, the three women activists were finally removed from the hold list. Dr. Enrile and her two companions were able to return to the US last Tuesday. The timing of the entire ordeal followed the recent passage of the so-called anti-terror Philippine Human Security Act of 2007. The GABNet 3 suspect that they were targeted due to their activists efforts to expose human rights violations in the Philippines.
