Occupying the Occupiers
| the entire program
GUEST: Sheryl Labash, Troops Out Now Coalition
A new report by the Iraqi Red Crescent notes that nearly two million Iraqis have been forced to leave their homes. In Baghdad alone, that’s nearly a million former residents who have become internally displaced. Meanwhile, the World Tribunal on Iraq has recently accused the United States of causing more deaths than the dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein. The condemnation from the Tribunal follows a new British survey that puts the deaths following the U.S. invasion at 1.2 million. In response to the travesties of the war, the Troops Out Now Coalition is preparing a direct action. Titled “Occupy the Occupiers” it will start tomorrow by setting up ‘tent cities’ in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. Locally, the first tent city will be located outside the Westwood Federal Building from September 22nd through the 25th. The second tent city will take place outside of the Downtown Federal building. This Sunday, the Los Angeles encampment will hold an all day “fist fest” featuring various teach-ins, a hunger strike and film screening. The week of action will culminate is massive marches against the war in both Los Angeles and D.C.
