Fire and I.C.E. in San Diego
GUESTS: Justin Akers Chacon, San Diego City College Professor, Mike Davis, renowned author and activist, Enrique Morones, founder of Border Angels
The last of the California wildfires that ravaged the state beginning two weeks ago is expected to be fully contained today. The Santiago fire of Orange County had been ninety percent contained for several days. South of the Santiago Fire, the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties issued a report on the lack of relief effort services provided to vulnerable populations. According to the report, as the San Diego fires burned, undocumented immigrants, the impoverished, homeless persons and prisoners were largely shut out of relief services. Also cited were incidents where journalists were obstructed from covering relief efforts in the aftermath of the fires. San Diego City College Professor Justin Akers Chacon, renowned author and activist Mike Davis, and Border Angeles founder Enrique Morones came together to discuss this untold story of the devastating San Diego fires. The following excerpt of their talk was recorded on the first of November, at the City Heights Recreation Center in East San Diego.
Special thanks to Global Voices for Justice for the recording.
