Military Families Speak Out Against Rising Death Toll
GUEST: Larry Syverson, National Board of Directors of Military Families Speak out
A taxi driver in Baghdad was killed by US private security firm Dyncorp over the weekend, as the debate over the role of private guards in Iraq continues. An Iraqi policeman who witnessed the shooting says that the attack was unprovoked, and that the private security guard drove away after the incident as if nothing had occurred. As violence in Iraq continues, a new figure indicates that at least 3,861 members of the US military have died since the start of the war in March, 2003. A ceremony took place at Saint John’s Episcopal Cathedral yesterday to honor the US veterans killed in the Iraq War. Leaders ran out of time to make it through the entire list of fallen soldiers before the end of 10 am Mass. 2007 has been the deadliest year for US troops since the start of the Iraq War. Congress continues to fund the war and has completely failed to bring an end to the death and destruction in Iraq. Today, on Veteran’s Day, Military Families Speak Out will honor the more than 3,800 US service men and women, along with the thousands of Iraqis that have died as a result of the war.
