Crass Struggle: Greed, Glitz, and Gluttony in a Wanna Have World – Part 2
Yesterday we heard part 1 of Sonali Kolhatkar’s interview with author R.T. Naylor about his new book Crass Struggle: Greed, Glitz, and Gluttony in a Wanna Have World. According to reports from the 2011 Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit, this year “is expected to be one of the strongest years for luxury goods in recent history.” The demand for high-end luxury goods catering to the ultra rich has spread to China, where new millionaires and billionaires are looking for ways to splurge their riches. In his book, Crass Struggle, author and Professor R.T. Naylor, chronicles the various luxury goods industries and the impact they have on the environment and society. He also examines what he calls “the rot at the core” of “today’s modern jungle of extravagant spending.” Here is part 2 of a 2-part interview with the author.
GUEST: R.T. Naylor is a Professor of Economics and Environment at McGill University. His earlier books include Satanic Purses, Wages of Crime, Patriots and Profiteers, and Hot Money and the Politics of Debt. His latest book is Crass Struggle: Greed, Glitz, and Gluttony in a Wanna-Have World

One Response to “Crass Struggle: Greed, Glitz, and Gluttony in a Wanna Have World – Part 2”
Thanks for the interview. His analysis was brilliant and one that is rarely heard, rarely heard explicitly even in Progressive formats. And it is the kind we NEED more of—especially if we (“we” who believe there must be more social justice for everyone, and especially for the silencED populace which tends to be the poor and folks of color) are serious about a necesity for a social & economc revolution—in this country, particulary more from the ruling class, from the dominate narrators. Thanks. Peace.
