As the holiday season approaches, laundry workers continue their more than two-month-long strike. Hundreds of laundry employees, union and non-union alike, are accusing Prudential Overall Supply of unfair labor practices. The company is the largest uniform and cleanroom laundry business in the state of California. Prudential contracts its services to federal and private customers such as the United States military and Wal-Mart. Despite the company’s increasing sales revenues this year, a Prudential laundry worker only makes $384 a week. On strike since September 12th, laundry workers have been seeking better working conditions and a living wage. Prudential has had twenty unfair labor practice charges filed against them in eleven of their workplaces in California and Arizona. Living wage complaints have also been filed in Oakland, Los Angeles and San Diego. Joined by Danny Glover, striking workers will commence a twelve day candlelight vigil today at 2 pm outside Prudential’s headquarters in Irvine (1661 Alton Parkway).
