Women's Day Calendar

  • March 8, 10:30 am: There will be an International Women’s Day March Against the war on Saturday March 8th at 10:30 am starting on the corner of Olympic and Broadway in Downtown LA, and heading to Pershing Square for a rally.

    The event features artists Mystic, Guerilla Queenz, La Santa Cecelia, Skim, and Cihuatl-ce.

  • March 8, 12 noon: In solidarity with a women’s march in Brussels, Europe, with women from Iran and Afghanistan, there will be a march on Saturday March 8th at 12 noon in Westwood in front of the Federal Building, 11000 Wilshire Boulevard. The march will begin at noon and continue through Westwood, culminating in a rally at Le Conte and Westwood at 2 pm.

    The event will feature Sussan Golmohhamadi and Anahita Rahmani from Iran, among others.

    This event has been organized by the International Women’s Day Coalition, Los Angeles 2008, and endorsed by Libros Revolucion, Students for Critical Thinking (CSULA), and the Union of Progressive Iranians.

  • March 8, 1:30 pm: There will be a Lunch & Town Hall Meeting called “Fund Caregiving, Not War & Occupation,” on Saturday, March 8, at 1:30pm at the Southern California Library, located at 6120 S. Vermont Avenue in LA.

    The event features women who will share their struggles and victories, & work out how women can support one another while overcoming divisions.

  • March 8, 5pm: There will be a Visual and Multi-media Art Exhibit on Saturday March 8th at Self Help Graphics, starting at 5 pm, featuring many women artists including Barbara Carrasco, Favianna Rodriguez and others. Self Help Graphics is located at 3802 Cesar E Chavez Avenue in LA.

    That evening, the exhibit will be followed by a live performance event starting at 7 pm, featuring women artists like Las Manas, Xaris, Gabriela Garcia Medina, and others, also at Self Help Graphics.

  • March 8, 7 pm: There will be an International Women’s Day celebration by the Women’s Commission of the FMLN on Saturday March 8th at 7 pm at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church, 585 E Colorado Blvd in Pasadena.

    The key-note speaker at the event will be Dr. Violeta Menjivar, the first woman mayor of San Salvador. The evening’s MC is Uprising host, Sonali Kolhatkar. There will be a presentation by poet and actress Maria Elena Fernandes.

  • March 9, 10 am: There will be a regional activist training workshop on Sunday, March 9th from 10am-5pm organized by Codepink LA, commemorating International Women’s Day. The event will take place in Malibu. Reservations are required before hand.

    The event will feature creative and informative workshops and special guests including Holly Near.

  • March 9, 2 pm: There will be a panel discussion on Art, Media, and Revolution on Sunday March 9th at 2 pm at Solidarity Hall, located at 2170 W Washington Blvd in LA.

    The panel will feature three artists and journalists: Susana De Leon, Ashley Love, and Amanda Rossi. There will be a dinner served at 4:30 pm.

  • March 9, 2:30 pm: There will be an international women’s Day celebration in Oxnard on Sunday March 9th at 2:30 pm at 438 South A Street in Oxnard.

    The event will feature a screening of the documentary, “Frozen Dreams,” and documentary about mothers among the hundreds of immigrants caught in the Del Monte raid last June in Portland, Oregon.
