Parole Hearings for the MOVE 9

| the entire program

MOVE 9GUEST: Ramona Africa, Minister of Information for MOVE

In April, seven members of the MOVE organization will be eligible for parole from sentences stemming from a 1978 confrontation with Philadelphia police. Charged with third degree murder, the “MOVE 9,” as they came to be called, were given 30-100 year prison terms in the shooting death of Officer James Ramp. On August, 8th, 1978, the Philadelphia police laid siege to the MOVE organization’s headquarters in the city. Officer Ramp was killed and seven others were injured. Just hours after the confrontation, the Powelton Village home that served as the group’s headquarters was razed to the ground. A costly and problematic 19-week trial ensued two years later convicting nine MOVE members despite the judge’s acknowledgment that he had no idea who exactly shot Officer Ramp. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and the Fraternal Order of Police vociferously opposed to granting the seven prisoners parole. On the other side, supporters of the MOVE prisoners are circulating a petition and letter to encourage the Philadelphia state Board of Probation and Parole to grant the seven inmates release from prison. A majority five of the nine votes on the board are ultimately needed to grant the prisoners parole.

For more information, visit www.onamove.com. Sign the online petition here: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/move9parole/

The eight remaining MOVE prisoners are Janine, Debbie, Janet, Delbert, Mike, Phil, Eddie, and Chuck Africa.

Letters can be sent to each of the nine Board members on the Philadelphia state Board of Probation and Parole:

– Catherine C. McVey, Chairman
– Charles Fox
– Michael L. Green
– Jeffrey R. Imboden
– Matthew T. Mangino
– Benjamin A. Martinez
– Gerard N. Massaro
– Judy Viglione
– Lloyd A. White

Address:
Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, 1101 South Front Street, Suite #5100, Harrisburg, PA 17104-2517

The Board members can be contacted by telephone at (717) 787-5699

Copies of the letters can be sent to Phil Africa at: William Phillips Africa #AM-4984, SCI-Dallas, 1000 Follies Rd., Dallas, PA 18612

I enjoyed listening to the show. Thanks again for doing a show about the MOVE 9 parole campaign, because these next couple weeks are crucial. At move9parole.blogspot.com we have a sample letter for writing the board, as well as a new video series featuring interviews with Ramona as well as Mike Africa Jr, who is the son of MOVE 9 prisoners Mike Sr. and Debbie.

Every letter and signature on the petition helps.
    Best,
    Hans

I understand everything that has happened during this time on May 13, 1984 even though i was not born even close to this date, but my main questions is why didn’t the remaining move members bounce back and come to stand up for what they believe in when this tragic event happened

Because they are lazy cowards. the only people you should feel sorry for are the hard working residents of Philadelphia who lost their homes due to the “MOVE” movement. If they were so unhappy, why didn’t they MOVE! Every person in that area got 190K for their homes, Far more than what they were worth! And for Ramona, get a job gurl, I am tired of paying for your welfare.

I have to express thanks to this writer just for bailing me out of this particular matter. Because of scouting through the world-wide-web and obtaining solutions that were not helpful, I believed my life was gone. Existing devoid of the approaches to the problems you have fixed by way of your main short article is a crucial case, and ones that might have badly damaged my career if I hadn’t discovered your website. Your personal competence and kindness in maneuvering every aspect was invaluable. I am not sure what I would have done if I hadn’t come upon such a subject like this. I can at this time look forward to my future. Thank you very much for your specialized and results-oriented guide. I will not think twice to propose the sites to any person who wants and needs assistance on this matter.
