GUEST: Jim Hightower, radio commentator, writer, public speaker, and author of “Swim against the Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go With the Flow”

In his latest book, Swim Against the Current, progressive populist and everyone’s favorite Texan, Jim Hightower, inspires readers with stories of everyday Americans choosing alternative approaches to business and politics. From a group of organic dairy farmers in Wisconsin to the Granny Peace Brigade in New York, the book features the innovative ways in which many Americans have defied corporate America. Hightower, with co-author Susan DeMarco, traveled the US, talking to these Americans, learning their stories, and documenting the challenges they overcame, as well as the successful models they employ. Jim Hightower served twice as the Texas Agriculture Commissioner. He has spent three decades working to make grassroots change in the US as a national radio commentator, writer, public speaker, and author. Each month, he publishes a populist political newsletter, called “The Hightower Lowdown.’ He is a New York Times best-selling author, and has written seven books including, Thieves In High Places: They’ve Stolen Our Country And It’s Time To Take It Back; If the Gods Had Meant Us To Vote They Would Have Given Us Candidates; and There’s Nothing In the Middle Of the Road But Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos. His latest book has an equally creative title: ‘Swim Against the Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go with the Flow.’
