On Saturday March 31st, a number of leading progressive organizations will come together in Los Angeles to build on the momentum of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Rebuild the Dream, MoveOn.org, Civic Action, Courage Campaign & the SEIU are hosting “All in for the 99%,” a day-long event featuring an art exhibit, music, readings, and activist trainings. Among the groups participating in the event are ColorofChange.org, Presente.org, Communications Workers of America and Occupy the Dream, with KPFK as the media sponsor. The goal of the event is to, in the words of the organizers, “Raise Awareness of Issues that Define the 99% Movement, and Demand an end to Citizens United.”

The art exhibit features works by 80 artists including Robbie Conal, Kimberly Brooks, Chris Johanson, Shepard Fairey, Cheryl Dunn, and many others. Rebuild the Dream’s Van Jones will be present to discuss his new book. And the internet comedy channel Funny or Die will be curating a one hour film program.

Also, part of the day long “All in for the 99%” event, Slake Magazine editors and co-founders Joe Donnelly and Laurie Ochoa will lead a series of readings from their award winning publication by writers like Erin Aubrey Kaplan and Natasha Vargas Cooper, as well as Val Kilmer reading from his one-man play Citizen Twain

On March 29, 2012, Uprising host Sonali Kolhatkar interviewed Joe Donnelly, former deputy editor at the LA Weekly. Slake Magazine, which he co-founded and co-edits, is an award-winning new quarterly reader devoted to the endangered art of deeply reported narrative journalism.
