Classic Shakespeare is featured alongside contemporary plays as part of this summer’s repertory season at the Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga Canyon. The acclaimed theater space in its spectacular outdoor setting hosts a variety of productions each year, often touching on social and political issues of the day. This year, the Theatricum presents Shakespeares’ Measure for Measure and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as Heartbreak House by George Bernard Shaw, and the Women of Lockerbie by Deborah Bevoort. The performances are directed by Theatricum Artistic Director Ellen Geer, as well as Willow Geer and Melora Marshall.

The Theatricum Botanicum was started in the 1950s by Will Geer, best known for his role as Grandpa on the Waltons. Geer was a victim of the McCarthy era Hollywood blacklist and his Topanga theater welcomed black-listed artists and actors. Members of the Geer family continue to run the theater which today consists of two outdoor amphitheaters situated in a natural canyon ravine.

GUEST: Ellen Geer, Artistic Director of the Theatricum Botanicum
