Clean CoalAs Democrats and Republicans battle each other for votes, election-related propaganda is flowing at a high rate – from both sides. The economy, unemployment, and the price of gas are all high on the list of worries for every-day people. For many others, adding to that is the impact of hurricanes, more intense and more frequent as a result of global warming. In response, both parties are touting all sorts of panaceas from domestic oil drilling to so-called clean coal technology and green-collar jobs. Today we focus on clean coal in our on-going election coverage. Delegates at both major party conventions sported buttons, stickers, and T-shirts proclaiming the virtues of clean coal. Candidates and elected officials made frequent mentions in speeches. Billboards advertised clean coal with no explanation – just the term itself says it all. But what exactly is clean coal? Is it really clean? And are there other, better options that are rarely discussed?
