Calling itself a “translocal music composition project between Chicanas/Latinas and Jarochas/ Mexican female musicians,” a new album called Entre Mujeres is the latest effort led by Quetzal lead singer Martha Gonzalez. It is a cross-border collaboration between Latina women in the US and Mexican female musicians in Veracruz

Gonzalez brought recordings from sessions in Veracruz, Mexico, back to Los Angeles and invited Chicana musicians, singers and percussionists to participate in continuing the recording process. The result is an eclectic sonic melting pot. Using Kickstarter to fund the album, the project successfully raised more than $10,000 to get the album mixed, mastered, and for a thousand copies to be pressed.

In Martha Gonzalez’s own words, “Entre Mujeres is a special focus and commitment on remaining active in documenting the presence of women in music movements. Understanding this through my own experience as a new mother at the time, this project was an attempt to make visible the struggles and balance motherhood and music have on a woman’s life.”

GUESTS: Martha Gonzalez, Laura Rebolloso-cuellar, co-founders of Entre Mujeres
