With only one more debate remaining until the Presidential election in November, many voters still remain uninformed about critical issues affecting our nation and the world. The corporate controlled media often stifle the stories which are critical to their business agenda, instead focusing on an extremely sanitized narrow view of the world. Veteran investigative journalist and founder and host of Democracy Now’s Amy Goodman, however has focused on grassroots issues outside confines for over 16 years. Now with her new book titled, “The Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance, and Hope” which she co-authored with Denis Moynihan, she puts forth the kind of news and information which is so often missing from the mainstream. The book, a New York Times Bestseller, is a collection of essays drawn from her weekly column with Moynihan, called “Breaking the Sound Barrier”.

Covering everything from climate change to capital punishment to Wikileaks and Occupy Wall Street, the book opens with a foreword from Michael Moore in which he states, “I first met Amy Goodman in the first month of the First Palestinian Intifada. It’s where I usually go to meet people. You throw an intifada — I’m there!”

The collection of essays boldly question the prevailing messages of a media focused more on entertainment than real journalism. Amy Goodman is currently on a 100 city tour to promote the book and will be in Los Angeles at an event sponsored by KPFK this Friday October 19th.
