Uprising’s Tuesday guest expert Robert Jensen, Professor of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, analyzes today’s news headlines:

NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden has just accepted asylum to Venezuela, according to an Associated Press report. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s office confirmed the request from Snowden, accepting the offer of asylum early this morning.
CORRECTION: The Associated Press report that announced that NSA whistle blower Edward Snowden had picked Venezuela as his country of asylum was found to be erroneous. After the story was reported it was discovered not to be true. The story was based on a tweet by a Russian lawmaker who has since retracted it. According to Wikileaks, Snowden is still deciding between offers from several countries including Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua.

President Obama is considering removing all troops from Afghanistan sooner than planned. The news comes after the embarrassing failed negotiations with the Taliban in Qatar that ended before they could begin.

After years of delay, the military trial of Army psychiatrist Major Hasan Nidal is being set in motion as potential jurors from various bases are being flown in to Fort Hood in Texas where the 2009 mass shooting took place. Nidal could potentially face the death penalty.
