The legal Defense team of accused Florida shooter, George Zimmerman is delivering its closing arguments in a case that has attracted global attention. The all female and mostly white jury begins deliberation today. Yesterday, the Prosecution was granted permission to ask the jury to consider the lesser charge of manslaughter in addition to second-degree murder.
Embattled NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, after denying rumors of accepting asylum from Venezuela, has apparently requested temporary asylum in Russia where he is holed up in an airport. He has requested a meeting with representatives of human rights groups, and accused the US of waging “an unlawful campaign” against his asylum.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has been named the next President of the University of California system, it has been announced just this morning. Mark Yudof, who has been the target of student protests, and who had been earning a salary of half a million dollars a year as student tuition spiked, will step down after 5 years.
