North Carolina’s Republican dominated House has just passed a bill that would make it harder for its residents to vote. A day after Attorney General Eric Holder vowed to take on the fight against states who target their voting laws, North Carolina legislators voted to end same-day registration, shorten the early voting period, end a very successful high school registration program, and require state-issued IDs.
Three years after the most devastating oil spill in the history of the US, one of the companies involved in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Halliburton, has admitted to destroying evidence related to the spill. The company is pleading guilty, and, if approved by the courts, will pay a mere $200,000 fine and enter into a 3 year probationary period.
