Many months before the explosive revelations of widespread spying were made public by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and the Guardian newspaper, a local coalition of activists here in Los Angeles was blowing the whistle on the spying tactics of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition has helped bring to light the LAPD’s use of so-called Fusion Centers to share intelligence from federal agencies, as well as what is known as Special Order 1 and “Suspicious Activity Reporting.”

Uprising host Sonali Kolhatkar recently spoke with Hamid Khan, an organizer with the Stop LAPD Spying Coalition.
