A Roundtable Discussion on the 1963 March on Washington and Parallels With Today’s Movements
Thousands of people are gathering today in the nation’s capital to hear President Obama’s address at the “Let Freedom Ring Commemoration and the Call to Action Ceremony” at the Lincoln Memorial.
Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter will also be present and will no doubt point to the election of President Barack Obama as proof of the victories of the civil rights movement.
But 50 years later, how many of the demands articulated at the March on Washington were actually met?
What does it mean for President Obama to speak at today’s commemoration?
